How is Acupressure Unique?

As humans beings, all aspects of our lives are interconnected, so the body becomes a storehouse for all our life experiences—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. It often takes a multi-tiered approach to make lasting changes when you have a fundamental imbalance in one or more of these areas. Acupressure supports this process by bringing flow and awareness to the body's vital energies.

Acupressure provides a deeply nourishing state for letting go of tensions or blockages. This facilitates the natural self-healing process that exists within each person, promoting physical healing and mind-body integration. Sessions are relaxing and empowering, resulting in a unique, holistic state of peace, calm and vitality. Benefits include improved health, relief from pain, more balanced energy and emotions, and greater sense of clarity and purpose. Acupressure supports your own healing processes of mind, body, energy and spirit at a deep, core level.

What happens during an Acupressure session?

A typical Acupressure session takes about one hour. We first briefly discuss your current health, physical or other issues. During the rest of the session, you will relax fully clothed on a massage table while gentle pressure is applied to combinations of acupressure points. While some points may be tender, Acupressure is generally not painful.

You may experience sensations in corresponding areas of the body as energy pathways become unblocked and cleared. As the session progresses, most people enter a state of deep relaxation and grounding. Many clients report gaining awareness about key health or life issues, while at the same time experiencing an energetic release that is often accompanied by relief from physical symptoms that have been troubling them.

How does Acupressure work?

Acupressure uses gentle touch at key points along the energy pathways of the body (called meridians) to release restrictions and rebalance energy flows in the body. The points serve as windows into the meridians and are accessed via a style of touch that contacts both the structure and energy of the body at once. This facilitates connection, revitalization, and healing on a "whole-being" level.

How can Acupressure improve self-healing and mind-body awareness?

In our fast-paced society we often lose sight of our need to rest, relax and recharge. You may not notice that something is out of balance in your body, mind or spirit until it manifests as pain or illness. Acupressure can help you achieve greater clarity about the current issues in your life -- allowing you to reconnect with yourself and return to a state of balance and ease.

What is your experience with Acupressure?

After training and receiving many shiatsu as well as acupuncture sessions, I first experienced a style of integrative acupressure in 1998, while at a crossroads in my life. Regular sessions helped me clear big physical, energetic and emotional blockages and become aligned with what I can best describe as my soul's purpose. While also addressing chronic physical tension in my body, acupressure helped get me "out of my head" and reconnect with my heart and body, to feel in harmony with myself inside and out. It was the most complete, powerful and revolutionary form of bodywork I had ever experienced. In 1999 I began training with Aminah Raheem, who developed an integrative technique called Soul Lightening Acupressure, and later became certified in this method. In 2010 I also became certified to teach the Seva Stress Release, a self-care acupressure practice for stress and trauma.
